So today we watched a movie that took place in Australia. It was about how the government round-up the native people. This is similar to our country is good because it shows how the government would control people. Though its criminals in one native people it is still the government having the need to control a group of people who they see to be lower than them.
Today we talked about who’s doing what for the Ib reasearch. I thought it was really cool the verity our class has and I hope everyone enjoys what ever they’re doing.
Also I would like to apologize to Jane for talking. I am really sorry.
Due to the craziness of the last few days I have not been able to blog recently so here we go.
On Monday we saw a performance by some por actors. I really enjoyed this, I thought it was very funny and well done. I have always enjoyed watching performances and it was cool to see something then hear have the opportunity to ask questions. I think it was a really valuable thing for an Ib drama class to see. Also on monday we got our cast list. I got the part of Meg Long plus the “suggestion” to be stage manger. I’m not sure how I feel about this part. For one Im kind of sad Im only going to be in one scene. I really enjoy acting and I feel I have not really gotten a chance to act. On the other hand it will be an interesting part.
On Tuesday we did a workshop with the actors from the day before. Though some of the exercises we did were rather simple I still kind of enjoyed it. It nice to hear another persons views on acting and to see how Shakespeare relates to games we play.
Today, we talked about the casting and tried to talk about our characters this was kind of difficult as we just got our character and have not really had a chance get to know them.
So this has nothing to do with Ib drama but it does have to do with drama.
So I really feel that it is important that we do a musical next year. As a junior I really feel it is important to have a musical my senior year. I know that selfish but it is my blog. I mean the musical this year has such a small cast and so many people didn’t get in. Including many juniors. It just seems unfair to let so many people miss out on having a musical their last years of high school. It seems like they are penalized for not being a part of the class of 2010.
Another reason I want a musical next year is that musicals are so much a part of our school identity, and the identity of the drama department. It’s who we are.
Well that’s how I feel. I know I have no control over next year but I thought I should voice what I am thinking. And who knows maybe I can use this in my final performance.
I have blogged what I am researching but not stated my question. So here is my question.
How did Commedia Dell’arte evolved into written work?
Due to a crazy week I have not been able to post a lot recently.
This week we have been reading. Working on try to finish Our Country’s Good and understand the characters. On Block we also discussed mediation. Some people believe that it works for all others think that clearing your mind is a waste of time. I believe it works for some. I am someone who has never been able to clear my mind. I think a lot and that will never change. I think that we can’t generalize relaxation people are different as are their minds.
I love drama talks and I’m excited about Our Country’s Good. Plus Into the Woods! SO MUCH IS GOING ON!
Today in drama we read more of the script. I still feel like I would enjoy being either Mary or Liz. I like Mary for everything she is that she is afraid to show. I also really like Liz because she’s not afraid to say what she thinks.
We also had auditions for Into the Woods and as the assistant stage manger I went. I really love going and I thought everyone did well, some of our own auditioned, such as Sophie who I thought did really well.
We are now finished with the one acts. This is kind of bitter-sweet. I am happy that the stress is lifted, but I will miss hanging out with the people. But of course Into the Woods will be starting soon so I will be focusing on that.
I am also looking forward to Our Country’s Good. Which will be casted soon so we will most likely be working on it more and more as time goes on.
I was trying to think of a good part for me but I like a lot of them. I would really enjoy playing a part that is a good size. I didn’t have a very big role in Laramie so I really want to try something harder. I think I would like Liz or Mary. They both seem interesting but I think that to get a good sence of Liz I need more of the script.
Today we did a read around of the script of Our Country’s Good. I really like the script and I am really trying to find the part that speaks to me. I would really like a chance to have a good part, I really need another play. As we were reading I started thinking of parts for others, I think Curran would be so good as Sideway. I can’t wait to get the rest of the script and get our parts. I think when we start working with this our interest in Australia will be heightened.
